Its dance party time again at what has become the signature concert of the Medicine Hat JazzFest – the bus terminal parkade show. And this year we are pleased to be presenting local dance party kings, Kool Ray and the Hip Katz. Since opening last year’s parked show, this dynamic ensemble has spent the year rehearsing and gigging and they’re back to get you dancing and celebrating.
Formed in 2006, Kool Ray and the Hip Katz is an exciting show band with music that spans over half a century. Their catalog features top hits from the fifties to the present, with an emphasis on horn oriented arrangements. Comprised of experienced professional musicians the Katz features a full rhythm section, horns, and powerhouse vocals. Co-led by “Kool” Ray Martens on keyboards and drummer James Evangelos the band is rounded out by Will Nickel on trumpet, Mark Ward on trumpet and vocals, Bob Wagner on bass, Pete Mueller on guitar, Eric Bodnark on sax and vocals and Teague Bates on trombone.
After 11 years, you know the routine. Bring the lawn chair, the kids, the parents, the grand parents, the dancing shoes, and get ready for another great night of music in one of the most unique venues in the country.
