Maciek Grzywacz Quartet
Featuring Tyler Hornby
East meets west as Polish guitarist
Maciek Grzywacz teams up with
Canadian drummer Tyler Hornby
in this driving contemporary jazz
quartet that leaves all borders
behind.
Maciek is a graduate of the
Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music
in Warsaw Poland as well as the
Higher School of Music in Munich
Germany. After receiving his
diploma from the Munich school,
he was invited to join the Yehudi
Menuhin Live Music Now Foundation,
and performed in Germany as
a classical guitarist.
Maciek has two solo albums to his
credit, Things Never Done, that features
New York trumpeter Avashai
Cohen and Forces Within, recorded
with drummer Hornby.
As co-founder of the group (0-58)
he had two subsequent albums
nominated for Jazz Album of the
Year. In addition to touring Europe,
Maciek is an in-demand session
musician and has also taken part
in recordings of film and theatre
music.
Calgary’s Tyler Hornby is no stranger to Medicine Hat, having appeared here several
times, including performances with Terrain as well as the Hutchinson/Andrew Trio. Tyler is
one of the busiest drummers in Alberta and his recent collaboration with Grzywacz is opening
international doors for him.
Rounding out this ensemble are Maciej Sikala on saxophone and Piotr Lemanczyk on
bass.
