Toby Foyeh and Orchestra Africa
It’s dance party time
and this year we’re
heading down to the
scenic site at Medalta
Pottery and bringing
along the sounds of
Nigeria with Toby
Foyeh and Orchestra
Africa!
Dubbed Afrijam music,
this dynamic New
York based ensemble’s
music arises from
the sounds of old
traditional Africa juxtaposed
with modern
influences. Nigerian
music styles, Afrobeat
and traditional Yoruba music fuse with rock, pop and jazz and the result is a compelling,
rhythmically driven music that is made for dancing.
Although largely self taught, Toby studied music at the Berklee College of Music and Howard
University in Washington CD where he also got a film directing degree. He has released
3 albums and has produced and recorded for a variety of other artists.
With traditional African instruments, as well as flute, guitar, keyboards and synthesizers,
Orchestra Africa features male and female lead singers as well as dancers. They have
performed around the world and Foyeh has received numerous awards for his contribution
to African music.
This is a good night to bring the family, or call up those friends you’ve been meaning
to go out with all year. With the back-drop of the historic Medalta site and the infectious
rhythms of Africa, this is a sure formula for a good time!.
